Where are you going?

You stand by
the door.
Smiling.
You do not bark.
You stand.
with a smile
on your face.
You stare at
the door as
if you possess
some secret powers
to open the door
yourself.
I get your lease
you squeal as I try
to put it on you.
Hold on..I say.
I hook you and off
we go.
I have had other dogs
that have minded.
You have a mind
of your own and
off you go.
Like a caged monkey
you are all over
the place.
You have had
4 different obedience
classes. None have
worked.
The last one was
at Pet Smart.
We were asked
nicely to leave.
I know once we left
the building the
others in the class
probably stood up
and clapped.
So here we
are in the country
and you are all over
the place.
You run, bark smile
and chase the wind.
You are not the brightest
dog.
but you have heart.
The biggest heart.
When I come home
from a bad day
you stand in front
of me and block me.
as I bend down to pick
you up you will kiss
my cheek and tuck
your cute face in
the crook of my neck.
Hey ..I call out where
do you think
you are going?
Your chubby little
bottom is running
across the driveway
to our neighbors
drive.
You huddle down
and squat like
Canada might
be coming out
of your bottom.
Right in the neighbors
lawn.
Just then the neighbor
pulls up.
busted!!
Nice he says looking
out of the window
of his truck.
Calm down..
I said..I will get it..
You are smiling
and so proud of
yourself.
Sometimes maybe
you are smarter
than I think.
