Your walk, your journey.

When I was younger
when we would
have problems at
home,
you would walk.
Walk out the door.
escape.
As your younger
sister I would
want to go
with you.
mom would
hold me back.
You are too
young to go with
him stay at home,
its safer.
At night when
the monster
would go to bed.
You would crawl in
a window
down
the hall and before
you would
go to your room,
You would slip a
note under my door.
It said different
things at different times.
Telling me things
would be OK.
We would be OK.
Funny words and
phrases,
lyrics to songs.
It was how we
would communicate.
Listen to going to California
by Led Zepplin.
one note said.
They calmed me.
One day It was so
bad, so much
violence. You grabbed
my hand and walked
out the door.
The monster yelled.
Where do you
think you are going?
screaming.
I stopped and yelled
back...
I am going to California!
We quickly started to run.
Run until we could not breath.
We ended up
at 7-11
drinking Slurpees with
a bunch of others
just like us.
Children trying to escape
the violence.
As we slept in bushes
you said to me ,
From now on
This is your walk, your journey,
Make this escape worth it.
I have ever since.
Whenever that song comes
on your sweet smile comes
to me.
You are my California.
You are my Brother.
