Our moment

Its a date.
I meet you
at your house
and we go out
for lunch.
I have not
seen you for
awhile.
but for
some reason
we keep connecting
up.
drawn to each
other.
we eat our lunch
and laugh.
so calming
and nice.
Off to hike.
we go to the
battlefield.
It is a beautiful
day.
Just a little breeze
sunny and not
too hot.
We get out
of the car
and we both
put our
baseball
caps on.
we start to
laugh
because
we look like
an old married
couple.
you grab my hand,
and off we go.
we hike for miles.
talking, laughing.
It is so relaxing.
At one of the Historic
homes a couple
is getting married.
so young.
The yellow dresses
blow in the wind.
The girls walking
through the tall
grass look like
a post card.
we walk past.
and laugh.
To be young.
we climb up to the
top of the hill.
On this lonely
hill sets a bench.
I look at it.
I love benches.
I walk past it.
You sit down on it.
Hey, you said.
come sit next to me.
No, I say I
am good.
It feels good
to stand.
I want to
sit with you.
but I have
a superstition
about benches
and coffee.
I secretly love
to see couples
sitting on a bench
and sharing
a cup of coffee.
I do not want to jinx it.
You smile at me.
Come on woman.
you say softly,
This is our moment.
Do not let it pass by.
I walk over and
sit next to you.
This moment,
our moment
feels so good.
As we sit holding
hands the breeze
blowing.
All you hear is wind.
we sit for awhile.
You lean into me
and say, you
know what I could
go for?
What?
I ask.
Ice cream or a
cup of coffee,you reply.
I smile at you.
what are you
smiling at?
You ask, laughing.
Oh, nothing.
I could go either
way,
I say.
