Just mousing around

we have mice.
It happens
the minute it
gets cold.
The Field
mice
come in
and it
drives me
and the
dog
crazy.
This morning
a very
calm morning
turns
into a crazy ride.
The dog is
on patrol
and guarding
his blanket.
He does
not want
to see a
mouse
or have one
on his blanket.
He walks through
the house
as mom and I
are drinking coffee.
I look down
at the empty
blanket
and I gasp.
A mouse.
Sitting in the
middle of
the dogs
blanket.
I put my coffee
down and what
I think is a perfect
idea,
is not a very
good idea.
I slowly pick
up the blanket.
Thinking I will just toss
the whole blanket
out the front door
mouse and all.
As I bend down and
pick up the blanket
the mouse jumps
and I jump and
the dog starts
running and
my mom starts
yelling.
Screaming like
Godzilla just
walked into
our living room.
I have my mom
take the dog
out the front
door.
I will deal with
this mouse.
He has run behind
the couch.
As I move the couch
he moves.
I squeal.
EEEEEEE!
What the
hell is wrong
with me.
Its a mouse.
a small mouse.
I have to
get some armor
on.
I am wearing
my pajamas
still.
I put on shoes
Oven mitts. check
snow shovel check.
plastic container check.
open back door check.
Take a sip of
coffee. check.
Now go
in there girl.
I take the plastic
container
and tip it upside down
and throw it on the
mouse.
Check.
I have my oven mitts
on just in case
biting might
happen.
I take the snow shovel
and spray Pam
spray on it.
I slide the shovel
under the mouse while
I am still holding the
container
with the other hand.
I walk slowly.
I do not want
this operation
to go badly.
I walk out
the back door
which I had left
open.
I walk over
to the fence
that overlooks
the farm.
With a flick
of my hand
I lift the container
and flip the shovel.
The Pam spray
makes him
slide like
he is on the
water slide
at the water
park.
Check.
Mouse gone.
Success.
I turn around
to see my neighbor
looking at me.
Morning, he says.
I look at myself.
My pajamas are apple
pies floating on clouds,
I have a baseball cap on,
2 oven mitts,
a large plastic container
in one hand
and a large sliver
snow shovel
in the other.
Proudly, I reply.
Beautiful morning.
Last day of my
vacation.
He starts to laugh.
I would ask
what you were
doing your last day
of vacation, but
do I want to know?
he asks.
I just smile
and walk
back to my
house,
no worries
I say.
I was
just
mousing
around.
