Walking through speakers

I am at a store

looking for 

speakers.

looking for

noise.

I am in

the store

and start

to read

the labels 

and boxes.

A man

standing next

to me

is also

looking

at the speakers.

I really

do not

look

at him.

but I feel

his stare.

I look up 

at him.

He turns

his head and 

starts

to blush.

I look away

the last thing

I need is

another

man.

He starts

to speak,

clumsy..

ITs hard to know

which one 

you want.

I reply, 

lighty

yes.

I continue looking

at the speakers.

He asks,

What are you

looking for?

I spin my head

around,

looking for? I respond.

I am looking for

a speaker 

that might last more than a year

that will fill me with love and sound,

that will make me feel the music,

feel life.

That will give something back 

instead of taking.

I stop mid 

sentence. 

looking away,

I am so embarrassed. 

Wow,

he says starting

to laugh.

that is a lot to ask

of a speaker.

I start to laugh.

I smile

and respond,

a girl has needs.

We both smile

at each other.

We sit in silence.

Finally I say,

Life is short.

The man responds

yes it is, so what

are you going

to do about it.

He turns his 

head and smiles.

I wait for

just

a minute.

I grab a speaker 

off the shelf and respond.

I am gonna live.

As I walk away

he says , 

need any company?

I turn around and

stop.

I look at him

and the words

slip out so

easily,

No thanks.

I have had company my

whole life.

I am gonna do 

this alone.

As I turned around

for the first

time in a long

time I realized,

I do not need that.

I do not need a man.

All I need right now

is me.

I have the heart of

4 people and

for the rest of 

my life, if you can

not love me 

with 4 hearts...

I can find another

speaker.
