Honeygrass
The sun
was warm
and forgiving.
I opened
the
back door
of my car
and threw
my back pack
in the back.
In this moment
I was feeling
very liberated.
As I got in my
car and rolled
down all my
windows.
Sun roof
open and off
I went.
Down the dusty
dirt
driveway.
The mountains
hugging me as
I drove.
I looked
in the rear view
mirror and
watched the dust
flying
up in the air.
The corners
of my mouth
curled
into a
smile.
Down through
the small
town
I drove
right
by
the river.
It was following
me.
Each turn
it
would
play
with me.
Hiding
behind
the trees
and peek
out around
was warm
and forgiving.
I opened
the
back door
of my car
and threw
my back pack
in the back.
In this moment
I was feeling
very liberated.
As I got in my
car and rolled

the river.
It was following
me.
Each turn
it
would
play
with me.
Hiding
behind
the trees
and peek
out around
Each turn.
The Air was
something
that could
not be
explained.
It was mixed
with honeysuckle,
trees and
the cool breeze down
by the river.
I took
my arm and let
the wind take it
as I drove.
As I came
to the low
water bridge
I took
my time
getting across.
The river
flowed
so beautifully
under
the bridge
and at times
it looked
like it might
wash over
the low bridge.
On the other side
I let
the road and
curves
take me to
my destination.
Out of my
car, blanket
and bag
I found my spot
right
by the fence
under the huge
pine tree.
Sitting on
the blanket
I took
an apple
out and waited.
You would come.
As I sit letting
the breeze sing
to me,
I see you.
We have a
unspoken
friendship.
You want this Apple,
And I
just want
this moment.
So you come up
and let me
pet you.
I feed
you the Apple
just a bit
at a time
so that I can
steal your time.
Once the
Apple is
eaten you
usually run away.
So as I
gave you
the last
piece
of
Apple I waited.
you stayed.
Because you
knew.
You felt my
pain that day.
For some reason
You calmed me.
So we sat
staring
at each other.
Reading each
others
feelings.
I was scared
to breath.
What if
you left.
I saw
your owner
coming
behind
you.
I moved
back quickly.
So did you.
I smiled
and nodded
as if to say
I was on
my way.
You ran toward
your
owner
and quickly
galloped
back and
got
all the way
up to the fence.
You sounded
your voice
and took off
fast and
disappeared.
I needed
that on
this day.
I just needed
Some kindness.
Some goodness.
Some sweetness.
And I got it
I saw
a little
compassion
from a Horse
named
Honeygrass.
And all it
took
was an
Apple and
a broken heart.
The Air was
