What matters most.
As I walk
down the unfinished
hallway
I let out a deep
breath.
I did it.
again.
Not sure how
but I did.
This is a hallway
only workers
know about.
I find
it peaceful
as I walk
to my car.
I do not have
to see anyone this
way.
At this
time of the
day
I do not
want to
hear any
sounds.
See any faces
or strike
up friendly
conversations.
I drag my feet
knowing at some
point before
I get to my
car I will have
to walk to
the main hallway
to get to my car.
I get to
the door and hit
it with my hand.
The florescence
lights drown
my senses.
I hear the noise
of people.
Children crying,
People yelling.
I catch a glimpse
of myself in
the reflection of
the store.
How did I get
here?
This is not
where I belong.
This is not
the Air
I should
be breathing.
These are not
the sounds
I should be
hearing.
I know this
in my soul.
But if not
here,
Where?
What matters
most changes
as you get
older.
When you are
younger
it is growth
and money.
When you get
older
its responsibilities.
What should
matter most
is what is in
our soul.
What is
it saying
to you?
Am I listening?
Well
I am now.
Because what
matters most
is me.
And this place
is a place
I just got stuck.
I could free
myself,
if I continue
to remind
myself,
What
matters
most.
