I Was Gone
Leaving you
on the mountain
top was easy.
It took one week
from
thought to finish.
Broken heart
mixed with
soft footsteps
guided me
through this
broken dream.
My white tattered
flag in hand.
Cranking open
the large
casement windows
the pine and
Japanese maple
reminded
me of the
injunctions
that the wind
whispered
in my ears
every night.
Reminded
me of the
cautionary tales
the gang
of feral cats
would
declare to me.
Even the
dangerous dance
with the summer tornado
wind and power lines
never moved me.
One picture
from your
phone
overtook
my strength,
and just like
that I was gone.
